Too＋形容詞の使い方
今回勉強するのはToo＋形容詞の使い方です。
意味は、形容詞の意味すぎるです。
この歌詞でいうと、Is it too late to say I’m sorry now?
この部分です。日本語訳は「ごめんなさいというのは遅すぎるのかな？」という訳
too late 「遅すぎる」
too much 「多すぎる」
too heavy 「重すぎる」
too expensive 「高すぎる」
などがあります。
S+V+too+形容詞という決まり
文法のお話をすると、S+V+too+形容詞という決まりがあります。
この辺はたぶん大丈夫だと思うんですけど、例文でも確認しておきましょう。
This is too difficult for me (これは私には難しすぎる。)
It is too wonderful adventure in this world (この世界で素晴らしすぎるアドベンチャーだ。)
This meal are too much for me (ご飯は私には多すぎる。)

Soとの違いは？
ここで気になるのがSoとの違いだと思います。
So＋形容詞も「～すぎる」のような意味になりますからね。
決定的な違いは、Soは「強調」の意味合いが強いことでTooは「だからできない」などのネガティブな表現になります。
ちょっと比較してみましょう。
- Your house is so expensive. You are rich. （あなたの家は高すぎる。お金持ちですね。）
- Your house is too expensive. I can’t buy it. （あなたの家は高すぎる。私には買えません。）←ネガティブな意味が含まれてる。
Soの方はVeryの意味とよく似ていると覚えてください。
